Can we prevent crash in personal mobilities?

This is a safety gear using ultrasonic sensors. There are 3 functions.
1. LEDs notify drivers where obstacles are and how close they are.
2. Buzzer is activated when obstacles are too close.
3. Headlight warns pedestrians nearby or other drivers by blinking it that it is coming toward them.


How it works

There are 3 ultrasonic sensors facing front, left and right. What they do is detecting the obstacles. Using Arduino nano, this device can calculate distance between obstacles. LEDs which are attatched at the top light up. Color of the LEDs depends on the distance.
-distance over 5m --> green
-distance between 5m and 3m --> blue
-distance between 3m and 1m --> yellow
-distance under 1m --> red and warning sound
Driver can recognize two information.
- How close obstacles are around.
- Which direction obstacles exists at.


Future usage

You can use this device in all personal mobilities like mototcycle, bicycle, e-scooter and e-bikes.
What this product does is giving warnings to the driver about the nearby obstacles. So that the driver can react quickly before crash.


Future development

We are planning to obtain a patent for this design and functionality. After that, we will make the exact design we showed above into a real product using CAD and 3D printer.
We want to demonstrate that this product can be produced for under 30pounds. We will show our product to electric kickboard companies or bicycle gear companies to highlight the effect and achievement that Rider Guard can make.
This can pave a way to make this product for commercial purposes. In the long term, even some regulations that all drivers should use this gear while driving personal mobilities can be introduced.
